Fact or fiction? We’re going through a few statements when it comes to skincare and helping to debunk some myths.

SEEING IS ALWAYS BELIEVING

Seeing is believing, right? Sometimes true, sometimes false. It’s a myth that your products stop being effective because your skin gets ‘used’ to them or if you stop seeing changes when you used to see them before.

For example, our Nrj-Net Revitalising Cleansing Mask stimulates your microcirculation. This often causes skin to become warm and red for a short period of time after using it. With time and regular use, it strengthens your microcirculation and this experience may happen less or not at all. This isn’t a cause for concern though as it’s still providing skin with all the benefits to keep it healthy.

MORE PRODUCTS MEAN BETTER SKIN

Sometimes less is more. Too many products all at once or overloading skin can cause the opposite desired effect and can in fact be damaging.

It’s also important to note that skincare products from one brand or a brand range tend to work synergistically or neutrally. Mixing different skincare from different ranges or from different brands may not work together as they were intended.

Our recommendation if you do plan to mix your skincare products with different brands is to introduce new ones sensibly and if you’re disappointed with results from your new product, hold back on other brands for a short time before issuing an ultimate verdict.

SKINCARE CAN GET RID OF PORES

Pores have a purpose. Although healthy pores are very small in size (5-10 mcm in diameter, total size 40-80 mcm) and can be difficult to see without any kind of instrument, they can never truly be gone or disappear. Pore sizes and shape can change due to a range of genetic and environmental factors.

If enlarged pores are a concern to you, they can be managed through lifestyle changes, skincare and aesthetic medical procedures.

I’M IN MY 20s, I NEED TO USE RETINOL

Skincare products and ingredients should always be chosen based on your skin needs and not based on the age in your passport.

A common mistake people can make with their skincare is using intense treatments before they really need it. Some people benefit a lot when they’re young from ingredients like retinol, while others may not need it even when they’re older.

Skin ultimately does change as we get older and preventative measures can be better than a cure, but certain ingredients aren’t for everyone and that’s okay. Finding ones that truly support your skin health along with consistency is the key to success.

I NEED TO DOUBLE CLEANSE

Cleansing is an important first step in skincare but this one very much depends on what you’ve applied on your skin before. For light daytime makeup or just skincare you might be perfectly happy with using just a cleansing product. For heavier makeup or water resistant sunscreen you should probably double cleanse.

I SHOULD AVOID WATER FOR MY SENSITIVE SKIN

Water is the safest natural ingredient and shouldn’t be avoided. All skin types however should avoid extreme temperatures of water. If you’re suffering from extreme sensitivity it’s best to seek professional help.
